Ultimate guide for washing microfiber towels

Ultimate guide for washing microfiber towels. Dos and Don’ts.
It is not a secret the microfiber towels are indispensable tool for the car detailing and cleaning professionals. High quality microfiber towels are soft, extremely absorbent, safe on the delicate surfaces and very durable. The letter however depends on how one takes care of the towel. In this article we will explain how to clean your microfiber wipes effectively and safely. What is most important, after reading this post, you will know what NOT to do in order not harm the microfibers and keep your towels in perfect working condition.
It is important to remember that most of the microfiber cloths are the combination of polyester and polyamide. Both microfibers are basically a type of plastic threads, which have quite low melting point. For example, polyamide will start melting at 60° C (140° F). Therefore, heat is the biggest enemy of microfiber generally speaking.

Let’s start first from what we SHOULDN’T do with microfiber during the washing process
1. Never wash microfiber with cotton or other types of cloth. Some types of cloths are linting a lot, and therefore the microfiber towels will “catch” all the unwanted fibers.
2. Never wash microfiber at the temperatures close to 60° C. Always set the washing machine temperature around 30-40° C
3. Never use powder detergents for cleaning microfiber towels. Powder detergents do not dissolve completely and the tiny particles will clog the fibers.
4. Never use any kind of softeners while washing the microfiber towels. Softeners will clog the fibers and decrease the absorption of the towels.
5. Never iron the microfiber towels.
6. Never dry the microfiber wipes on heated surfaces like radiator. Air dry instead.
7. Never wash bright colored towels (red or orange) and blacks with lighter colors to avoid bleeding.
8. Never use any kind of bleach.

Tips about washing the microfiber towels
1. It is advisable to wash brand new towels to remove any potential lint.
2. Add distilled vinegar to the bleach port of the washing machine.
3. If the towels are very dirty, soak them in a cool water with a little dedicated detergent for a few hours.
4. Use dedicated detergent for the microfiber or a mild liquid detergent without dyes or perfumes, like, for example, Chemical Guys Microfiber Wash.
5. If possible, wash separately towels with long pile and short pile.
